Observation and Assessment

We use a secure online platform called Tapestry to share observations and photographs of your child. You will be sent an email before your child starts with us, from Tapestry, to ask you to activate the account. By accepting their terms and conditions you are agreeing to use this method. All information of your child is only shared with you and anyone else you request to be added to the account. On your first visit with your child we will discuss how Tapestry works and ask for permission with regard to sharing photographs. Throughout your child’s time at playgroup the key person will share observations/photographs /assessments with you via Tapestry.

Your child will also become the 'focus' for a week (approx. 2 times per school year) .Their key person will focus on what the child's interests are that week and will support them to develop their skills and knowledge in that week. You will be informed the week before your child is the 'focus' and asked if you can give any information about your child's interests at that time or anything happening at home e.g. visits, activities, occasions. We will also ask if you can upload some photographs of your child outside of playgroup to Tapestry for us to share with them. The idea is that we can gain as much information about your child at that specific time and use that knowledge to support them. The observations and how we have supported your child during the focus week will be uploaded to Tapestry for you to see/download/print and comment on.

Assessments -If your child is under 3 they will be assessed against the 3 prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. If they are over 3 years old they will be assessed against the 7 areas of learning and development of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The assessments will take place twice a school year and you will be invited in to discuss this with the key person.
